Since her PhD from Yale University in 1994, Reichert
has been working as an analyst of higher education developments in
Europe and the USA. Her comparative policy analyses and strategy consulting projects for
higher education institutions, authorities or representative
organisations, have included mandates by the European Commission, the
European University Association, the League of European Research
Universities, the Academic Cooperation Association, several national
ministries of education, as well as many universities (such as the
Universities of Bremen, Konstanz, Mainz, and Humboldt University in
Berlin, Germany, the Universities of Basel, Bern, Lausanne and ETH
Zürich in Switzerland, the Norwegian University of Science and
Technology, as well as the University of Barcelona in Spain).
In her work for European organisations, Reichert has analysed the development of doctoral education reforms, the role of universities for regional development, strategy development processes at European universities, as well as the impact of internationalisation or international reform processes such as the Bologna Process on institutional development.
Her comparative analyses of the implications of the Bologna reforms on higher education institutions in Europe (the so-called “Trends” studies) are said to have been a crucial analytical input for the European University Conventions in 2003 and 2005 at which the European universities determined their positions for the advancement of the transnational policy developments in the framework of the creation of a common European Higher Education Area (known as the Bologna Reform Process). More recently, important comparative analyses include a study of the role of universities in knowledge regions (2007) and of institutional differentiation in 5 European countries (2009).
For national ministries of education, Reichert's projects include, e.g., a national sector report (Slovak Republic), for which she was the main analyst and author, an analysis of the State and Perspectives for Continuing Education at Universities (Switzerland), as well as expertise for the development of institutional differentiation in the higher education system of Romania (2011).
In her work for individual universities, Reichert has focussed on strategic developments and organisational reforms in an international perspective. In 1998, she was a member of the structural reform commission of Konstanz University. In 2000-2001, she helped launch strategic planning at the HU Berlin for the new presidency. From 2002 – 2005, Reichert was responsible for strategic planning at ETH Zürich in the office of the Vice President Planning and Logistics where she helped to develop instruments to facilitate networking across departments in common scientific platforms in view of new scientific interfaces, enhanced visibility and sharpened profile of the institution in the international arena.
As a member of the expert pool of the European University Association’s renowned Institutional Evaluation Programme Reichert regularly evaluates university’s strategic processes and change capacity as well as internal quality culture and methods of quality enhancement.
Member of the Catalan Council of Research and
Innovation (CCRI) since 2009.
Member of the advisory board of the Konstanz Wissenschaftsforum of the University of Konstanz, a public discussion forum which promotes analyses and dialogue on national and international higher education and science policy between universities and the larger public in Germany.
